For most university students, learning languages means attending lectures and reading textbooks, and trying to memorize different grammar points and tons of vocabulary. But here in Praxis Language, we believe that it can be so much more than that! Combined with our podcasts and myriad of study tools available on our websites (Cpod and SpanishSense), we can help you supplement your class curriculum right in the comforts of your own home - or wherever you may be.
If you are currently an enrolled university student (as proven by having a university e-mail address, or sending us a scanned copy of your current class schedule, or some other paperwork that confirms that you are indeed a student), we’d like to help you get a head start on your studies! For only 99 USD, you get 8 months of premium access to all the study tools available on the site (ChinesePod or SpanishSense) and a chance to be part of the ever-growing international community of learners.
Why not learn Chinese and Spanish together with us? For more info, please choose the appropriate logo below and sign up now!

Is there any specific reason as to why this promotion is only directed to US (and UK?) university students? Universities in other countries, such as Germany, often do not have .edu domains.
Sebastian Says:
September 4th, 2007 at 5:09 pm
Why is this promotion only for universities in the US? UK universities use ac.uk, China’s universities use edu.cn or edu.hk, some other countries don’t have any special domain for universities. You could at least include the other counties that have dedicated university domains.

You may find that although your university use for example .ac.uk if you send a test email to the university name .edu the email will be forwarded on to your .ac.uk account

Hm, you know what, you guys are right. We’re going to extend this offer to any university student, but we’re going to have to look at the addresses on a case-by-case basis (because we can’t easily create an exhaustive list of foreign academic e-mail extensions).
In short, if we can verify that the e-mail is from an accredited university, we’ll extend the offer.

I’m interested but would just like to confirm that my Australian university qualifies since it has a .edu.au rather than just .edu at the end of the email address!
Thanks!

I am currently enrolled in Chinese 102 at the college of Marin in kentfield California. We use Integrated Chinese in our class so this would be helpful. I am a student butI do not have an .edu account. I am enrolled in software discounts for students and the way they verify is by faxing or e-mailing a current schedule from the university. I will be happy to send proof of current enrollment but not all students have .edu accounts. Please let me know. xie xie Stacy

I am an enrolled University student - courses with Oxford Univbersity and Open University (UK) but do not have an .edu mail account.
I’d be definitely interested in Chinese (Mandarin) and later Cantonese (I’m assuming they are radically different.

Some of us are studying outside the USA at institutions which do not provide student e-mail addresses.
It is sad that they will be excluded from your offer.
I would probably make use of it, if it did not exclude me.
Your podcasts are good.

Hello everyone,
We realized that the .edu address requirement was confusing and limited the reach of the promotion. I just changed the line in the post to read:
If you are currently an enrolled university student (as proven by having a university e-mail address, or sending us a scanned copy of your current class schedule, or some other paperwork that confirms that you are indeed a student), we’d like to help you get a head start on your studies!
Hopefully this should clear things up. If you have any specific questions about your eligibility, please contact us at chinesepod@gmail.com

Hey,
I’m wondering how this breaks down by level. Is this just for beginners? Or will there be intermediate and advanced “courses”?
Also, if my school is not participating, does this mean I can’t, or might have difficulties? Is there a way to get my university involved?
Thanks!

Hi Chinese Pod,
I’m just wondering how long this offer is valid for. I’d like to subscribe for a month and see how I like it before I commit to 8 months. As a student I’m pretty frugal and like to know what I’m paying for - although I do love the podcasts.
Thanks,
Racheal

Hi Adam,
Regarding the 99 USD promotion, it is open to ALL universities!
Regarding the integrated Chinese blog program we are doing in conjunction with the price promotion, we are currently looking at the beginners level. If the IC program is successful, we will probably extend it to other levels as well in the future.
Hi Racheal,
The promotion will end on September 30, 2007 (Shanghai time / GMT +8).

To Whom It May Concern:
Thank you for your latest info and offer. Some points:
1) Since I am not a (college/university) student and have no intention of placing myself in such a precarious position again, I do not (seem to) qualify for your offer.
2) Just what does this offer provide? Text, audio? I have great trouble understanding spoken Manderin (news, etc.)and could use help in that.
3) I would be more than willing to sign up for some or all of your programs if I can have a better understanding just what these programs will do for me. I have been studying Mandarin for a long time and with great pleasure but seem at this time to be stuck in the eye of the hurricane, making little or no progress. Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your reply. I always (get emotional) when somebody does answer me, this probably as a reflection of the great deal of trouble that I have in getting through to the Chinese department of a local college.
I will not be available for the next two weeks but will, after that, follow-up on your suggestion. As I mentioned to you above, I have to find way to regain some momentum.
Best Regards, Paul J.

So… I signed up for the 8 months and was all excited when I got my approval email from you, but now I’m having problems paying for it because the praxis site is all in Chinese characters. I think this may have happened because I’m based in Shanghai now, but my Chinese is nowhere near good enough to decipher it. Is it possible to have that link sent me in English?
Eileen Says:
September 12th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
Hi Rachael,
We will try to send you one again now! Sometimes Paypal does change the language used in their emails without our knowledge. If there is further problems, just email us chinesepod [at] gmail.com

Hey Paul, if you can’t start your free trial right away, at least come over and join us in the students’ own Forum now. Your sign-up over at forum.chinesepod.com is separate from your trial period using the service, so there’s nothing to lose even if you’re busy right now. While you’re getting ready to jump in to the more formal learning, come over to the Forum in your odd moments and we can show you more ways of getting into, and out of, the well known “eye of the hurricane” than you’ve ever imagined! Get to know your class mates first, and we’ll help you get your Chinese back on track and to make the best out of your free trial when you have time to begin it. If you want to, you’d be very welcome.

I apologize for the late reply. The 99 USD payments that comes in over the weekend are usually processed on Mondays since they need to be done manually. I will be in contact again through email once we’ve processed your payment today.

Hello,
If I am going to purchase that offer, should I pay for that in whole. Is there any installment basis? So that in the middle of my course, when I feel like I am not absorbing the lessons I didn’t have to regret ’bout my $99.

Yes, it is paid as a whole; there is no installment basis.
