Remix Praxis!

We get a fair amount of feedback on our belief that lessons should be distinct, non-sequential, learning objects. While we have experimented with linear narratives, such as the lover’s tale on ChinesePod, we produce each lesson with the thinking that it is an individual entity that can be re-mixed by anyone that feels so inclined.

Similar to Steinberger’s theories in ‘Everything is Miscellaneous’, we believe that there are multiple categorization schemes for anything we produce. For example, while the ChinesePod lover’s series has a clear narrative, individual episodes might also be bundled with other lessons based on alternative criteria, such as common, grammar themes.

The link below (featuring our SpanishSense) is a great example of this. Personally, I believe this type of re-mixing will be a key element in the future of educational publishing:

After browsing the suggested course, I am left thinking how we might take advantage of The EcuaTraveler ’s editorial work by integrating this back into SpanishSense as a lesson set or something of the sort.

I just noted that no one commented on this - I would agree that this is important. V2 could sort of allow a user to do this on their on with it’s list concept, but this wouldn’t help people share, and it’s gone now anyway. I think what Praxis needs is the ability to have users tag lessons to make their own lesson sets for personal use or to share. Think of the Amazon Listmania function for a way of sharing and letting users create descriptions and instructions for a set.

    Lee,

The v2 list evolved into the v3 calendar (which can also be shared), but honestly I feel the whole system could use a host of improvements to make it more intuitive and usable. Your Listmania suggestion is a very good one and we will look into it.
