Yah, I saw that article but stopped reading it. I don’t get it. Almost every 20’something Chinese person online already uses MySpace.

I think somebody pitched a nice BP and got a lot of funny-money to spend.

    …too bad it wasn’t me!

Myspace doesn`t currently support chinese characters or pinyin though, you`re forced to use toneless pinyin. That`s one of the reasons I cancelled my account.

Great! Instead of the 100,000,000 friends on myspace, we can have 1,300,000,000 friends! Party time!!! :-)

Okay, I guess I am so Web .003, I realized I’m mixing up MySpace, with MSNSpace that is now Windows LiveSpaces….

Anyway, MSNSpace or now Windows LiveSpaces definitely supports Chinese and is what everyone here in China has, like QQ.

Can we have the “page” format integrated again into the lesson archive? Right now if you click a lesson archive it’ll list the 10 most recent lessons but there is no “Next” or “Previous” page buttons. This makes it really difficult to browse the archive.

    Hi Jeff,

Thanks, we’ll keep that suggestion in mind. :D In the meantime, what you can do is to use the filter option (found on the main lesson archive page) to search for the podcasts of your preferred level. :D

I wish there was someone who could tell me how I can write in Chinese characters to say something to someone without having to resort to “spelling it all out” e.g. Wo fei-chang ai ni, hao la–this is assinine that we have all the destructive power to reduce the city of Baghdad into a rubble heap, turn American soldiers into 1944-style Warsaw-ghetto thugs as seen in Abu Graib prison, but “our technology”–this holy cow we so highly praise, disallows me to be able to express myself beyond the confines of the Latin alphabet, something that Scipio was using while Hannible was attacking Rome–205 B.C.E.–in other words–I as a human, am still stuck, DESPITE “Technologie”, in using an alphabet TOO cumbersome to be effectively applied to a language–the Chinese had already completed the GREAT WALL in 205 B.C.E., yet here in what is almost 2007, this so-called techno-crap can’t even allow me to write on it one of the oldest languages still alive and written/spoken by the bulk of the world’s people!

this is pathetic, they started too late if you want chinese social networks right now i can name you some,

    cyworld.com.cn
    51.com
    hi.mop.com
    qzone.qq.com

    myspace fails horribly

Bazza’s “link” was not only helpful–why, man, I’m absolutely ecstatic (did I spell that right?)–I’m very happy!!! See, I was just ignorant; fortuately this time there was someone to lead me to the light!!!!

  11. 11 kim- ha albert Dec 23rd, 2006 at 10:45 pm

For Mike, I have to agree with you–myspace is lacking, but that’s really the only 100,000,000+ “game” out there…. And, Mike, I’m “out there”!

I credit David, however, for the BRILLIANT quick-fix solution available for anyone, as I discovered today, who needs to compose in Chinese text, and in their control panel do not have a language icon to click on. David, you are in my word’s TIME’s Man-of-the-year, even though I am neither qualified nor authorised to award such an honour to you. But, were TIME’s founder STILL living, and he was made aware of this dialogue, I am CERTAIN that Mr. Luce (although I never PERSONALLY knew him) would DROP EVERYTHING and just say, “David, for your helping Kim-Ha Albert, and by further educating the uninformed of availible options, you’re now man of the year.” I know this much, that Henry Luce was a “China Buff” and he spent a great deal of his youth there, and it is on this foundation I base my conjecture. Bravo, David! ” Wen Cui! “( Trans. 10000 years)

  13. 13 Kim-Ha Albert Dec 24th, 2006 at 6:09 pm

Chinese characters on myspace, through the link Bazza supplied (20 Dec 1845)came David’s mdbg.net/chindict/webime2.php?ime=mand_simp—After copy/paste of these characters on myspace.com edit profile, initially the characters appear–then, they mysteriously turn into ????!?? ???!!?! this kind of computer vomit–what’s up with that–I incorporated the chinese characters into a really well written english text this morning and now it looks like ’twas written by punctuation-impared typist. Any outlooks. Is is this computer–I’ve checked other locales–??!??? ?????!? is everywhere–is it a myspace.com digestion problem or what. Must I do over to make what was once nice-looking???

  14. 14 Kim-Ha Albert (陈金夏) Dec 29th, 2006 at 3:11 pm

Now I’d like to show a “for instance” with myspace using Chinese characters–this is what I was referring to with regard to the difficulty of myspace using chinese. I am, as you know Kim-Ha Albert; in Chinese:
陈金夏 is my name, and I copied/pasted from a site Bazza’s responder, David suggested:www.mdgb.net/chindict/webime2.php?ime=mand_simp. What happens is that once I fill in the “name” info on myspace “edit profile” deal, the characters remain like this for about 20 nanoseconds, as well as all other time-consumingly produced copied/pasted text, to something that looks like this: ???!!!!????! Does ANYONE OUT THERE have any insight to this phenomena? What is surprising is that IF I send a comment to some one else, my name DOES show up as “Kim-Ha Albert (陈金夏).”, and the text of my message remains in Chinese, but my “website” is riddled with !!!???!? kind of goop which I could only wish would have remained in the original Chinese.

新年快樂! Now, how nice it would be to be able to type, without worry of it “evaporating” into a pool of ??????, into Chinese on myspace.com–perhaps on of the bloggers on Ken Carroll’s ChinesePod Blog can offer me more “less ephemeral” solutions, because, it seems, everything I type, lasts less than a day, or 限于一日的!

  16. 16 Kim-Ha Albert (陳金夏). Jan 4th, 2007 at 9:09 pm

中文 or even Thai is useable on livespaces so I took the view that with so many other non-latin character using networkers out there, it was easier to switch than fight!

“Albert 陳金夏’s space” (use the e-mail
    albertkimha_atmyspace@yahoo.com to find me)

is my new space at windows livespaces, with the banner:
我是德國出生的這么 樣的用 毛筆的 畫家! I took the advice from both Bazza and Lantian, simply because I just got so danged tired of retyping all the Chinese characters every danged day on the myspace sight that kept turning into ???? even on my blog! When I saw that Bazza had cancelled the myspace acct, well, I can see why–livespaces supports Chinese, Thai, just about anything–it’s different and may take some time to adjusting to, and I haven’t cancelled my myspace acct yet, but, well see….Until then, I intend upon keeping The ChinesePod Blog with Ken Carroll up to date on the newest events I come across.

which is a tool I employ every single day now, and I would have NEVER been able to do much of the daily tasks I perfom without such a “heads up!” This ChinesePod Blog is a wonderful forum, and a rich asset! Thanks for everything to all! Please visit my websites or feel free to drop me a line at my e-mail address below.

Well, today, I thought just to “touch base” with the ChinesePod Blog with Ken Carroll and to relate that I FINALLY GOT THE ABILITY TO TYPE CHINESE, VIETNAMESE –VIRTUALLY ANYTHING ON A MYSPACE.COM PAGE: Finally it’s HAPPENED! If anyone is at all interested, I wish them to just click on to my name, which SHOULD take them to my Chinese/Vietnamese (with English text) page, playing Khmer music (I intend to be able to figure a way to write/type Khmer on this page ASAP–IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW ALREADY, please contact me, for this is something I am very much interested in pursuing–usually Khmer text turns into empty squares everywhere….

Thanking you for all your help and for allowing my comments, I remain

    Dear “pod-blog” associates,

I just wanted to stop by and to “update” everyone here at the Chinesepod blog with Ken Carroll, that the above page I maintain IS still one which can support, not just Chinese fonts, but the typed scripts of Thai, Vietnamese, Laotian, Arabic–I have “kicked the tires” and driven this page hard up and down a few busy streets, and nothing, as yet, has turned to ???????? goop, which, as you know, it used to, on the “normal” myspace sites. Click on my name, while you still can, and come see for yourself–the reason I say that, is that of late, that is the least of my problems with myspace–if you go to the Kim-Ha Albert site, you will see it was not only hacked, but deleted by the perpetrator, and similar things have also happened to at least three of my other friend’s pages in the past two months; myspace is incompetent with maintaining one’s privacy and security, or preserving the integrity of their realm. Not once, on 96990.com, a Chinese networking site, have I had one instance where I felt as though I was writing or using a system which would ultimately “ONE DAY” just disappear along with my friends and all their mail, without ANY explanation, rational, incorrect, false or otherwise, as with myspace–this is “Tom”’s second time, and prove to be an ultimate waste of time…. But for the length of time you DO have, well, for what it’s worth, you CAN use Chinese on myspace. (If only we could use KHMER, but techno-geeks can’t figure out an ancient Southeast Asian language of such complexity!). Thanking you for the forum to update you here, and inviting any and all to come to bongthomdotcom and read my blurbs at that site as well, I remain

I just wish to update “any body who cares”–who knows, something I post here may actually prove to be useful(?) to someone later on, I don’t know yet, but I must point out that initially, when one establishes a myspace.cn account, one DEFINITELY does have the ability to type in Chinese, and that’s fine–one can even type, as I stated above in previous notes, Korean, Vietnamese, Laotian, and Thai–but THEY WON’T LAST–they all degrade into ????? or weird looking m”ng n”c ””ng stuff for the Vietnamese–also, I must say here too that there is a whole world of hackers and wackers just waiting for you to set up your page and blog in the language of choice that you use–it doesn’t matter–people will get into your page , write stuff on your page of a malicious nature and “Tom” or “Wu Kong” (The Chinese version of Tom) won’t be able to do a thing about it–if you contact myspace in the “contact myspace” block, they will send you a snippy little e-mail weeks after someone/some robot deleted your page stating “We were unable to find anything wrong” or “We are unable to find any evidence that such and such a page with such and such an url ever even existed. So what we have here in my opinion, is comfirmation of what my wonderful advisor Bazza (see above!) stated earlier, that he wasn’t going to waste his time with My Space, and after all this time and trouble, I would only have to agree, with all the malicious vandalization of pages that I have experienced, the incessently odious storm of daily “pornbots” trying to get access to your site as a “friend” and the other numerous problems “If you have just edited your profile, we most unfortunately regret that all the data on your page just turned to mush and you will have to start all over!” Don’t laugh–that happened to me , and only AFTER I noticed my page turning to mush, I get a “heads up” from TOM. News Corp is going to have to go back to the drawing board—this medium is worthless, unless it is only one for retailers/marketers to profile the unknowing “victim” and mine data….

    Most cordially, your friend

    陳金夏(Trần Kim-Hạ)

Oh, and by the way, there is a little block that will appear after I hit the submit button here, but the letters which insure that I am not a robot never show up, so I thought to point that out to you, because sometimes I type all this kinda stuff and it all just goes off into another dimension where humans don’t exist…
