Hi! Nice video. I feel now more involved in the CPOD family once I know your work environment how look like. Everybody seem to be working very hard, is that because they know they were filmed? Nobody said ‘hello’ to the camera.
When you listen to the podcasts you don’t imagine them standing up, I usually imagine them relaxing in reclining armchairs and wearing a nice pair of fluffy bunny slippers.
I foresee Jenny coming back with a film crew in tow, for a piece on where she started before reaching international fame.
Ken, John and I will have probably tried to start our own band - but will have broken up soon thereafter due to John’s inability to reach the high notes (we’d be a Journey cover band, of course).
…and yes, the “white board” is high tech…so high tech that if you turn it over, you can write on the other side as well…
Now, I must send out an email re: crossing the line to my desk.
Bazza, I noticed that too, but for everyone. The tables all (except two) need to be lowered by 10cm to get the forearms horizontal. I bet they say poor innocent Aric is a pain in the neck without realising it’s the way they’re sitting to type that causes the pain. Of course Jenny would never say such a terrible thing. She has the good sense to stand at work.
I’ve heard of many radio personalities who stand while doing their show. Perhaps it helps to keep the energy up. Hosts who are too relaxed usually aren’t that interesting to listen so. So no La-Z-Boy recliners in the studio.
Standing/sitting? I think it depends on your objectives. Standing for the lesson recordings somehow helps keep a fast pace . They have to move really fast, without seeming really fast…if you know what I mean. People tend to listen to some of them over and over, so we have to get to the point and drive home as much as we can comfortably squeeze into each lesson. I like to get some energy into it.
An interview with a professor, by contrast, would be best done sitting. There, you need time to explore ideas and give the listeners time to think about it.
When Poddies go to ChinesePod offices, do they get a factory tour?
Do we get milk tea and cookies?
Or are they left standing in the lobby? What happens when people come to visit you?

By any chance are here Harley riders with ChinesePod? I heard not too long ago on a Saturday Show
that Jenny Zhu came in with her Harley boots.

Is the Jacuzzi in the shop again? I didn’t see it.
Excellent tour.

有意思!
I especially like the high tech (compared to chalk) schedule board
Happy Birthday to you, Chinese Pod! For your tenth birthday, maybe you can show us the “behind the scenes” inside story.
James - 10th bday?

Aric
My first impression of the line was to keep you in. Not keep others out.
Mike in Jubei
BTW Rian is a prime example of bad computer posture there.
Hey, those high notes are pretty high!
Don’t blame me, blame Journey.

Jenny has no choice but to stand, Aric has stolen all the chairs for GigShanghai hehe.
Seriously though is there a special reason for standing whilst recording the podcasts? It is better for the voice?
No, it is because the micro is tall

Ken Carroll
cool thanks for the video! who does all of the website programming anyway? happy birthday!
Dustin
Interesting. Cubicles aren’t a big thing in China, I guess? And what kind of username is assqueen? Ooops–my mistake–it’s asqueen!
Steven, Yep, we’re not big on cubicles.
Dustin, whoever it is that does the web tech, it certainly isn’t me!
Ken
Does it get noisy in there?
Aunty,
Not really. Whatever noise that exists there comes from a select group of less than two people.
Ken
