Podcast Service Disruption

Our podcast hosting service informed us there was a short disruption in their service yesterday (see message below). This might have caused some ChinesePod users difficultly in accessing the MP3 files. We will continue to monitor this and strive to provide the most reliable service possible.

A form of DOS attack hit our data center this evening around 8:50PM. Thankfully we have a very alert and responsive tech staff that reacted to the attack and has brought our network back online in less than half an hour.

A question for your techies, I’m pretty certain your pod servers are serving things up from servers based in North America or over the European trunk. This is seperate from servers here in China and there is a bottleneck going over the pond from here in China.

For those of us in China, basically we can get fast speeds with Chinese sites because the servers are in China. But our local providers have poor connections/bridges to servers outside of China. In other words, although I have the fastest possible DSL line here in my part of China, the podcast mp3s take over 5 minutes to download at best, impossible during the day, and longer than 10″ in the evenings.

So my question is, can you guys mirror the files onto a Chinese server? For example, on your site you might have a link to “Those in China” that then has the files on a Chinese server.

    Thanks.
